The Importance of Dental Hygiene

Dental

We see such a wide range of patients at Broomhill Dental, and we treat each patient according to their unique situation. A common question we are asked about by patients is what they can be doing at home to best take care of their dental hygiene.

Brushing your teeth

While this is something we can take for granted, it’s also easy to forget to do sometimes. We recommend brushing each morning and night, and you’re wanting to aim for 2 minutes of brushing. If you have trouble remembering, try setting an alarm. If you find it boring, try listening to a podcast or audiobook while you brush.

A good way of getting kids into the habit of brushing their teeth is listening to a podcast like Chompers. The podcast is ideal for kids aged between 3-7 and includes riddles, fun facts, songs and more to entertain them while brushing.

Why is brushing your teeth important?

As an adult, you’ve only got one set of teeth, so you want to look after them. Brushing helps keep your teeth in good condition by preventing cavities or tooth decay. It also prevents gum disease and bad breath.

When you’re brushing, it’s not just your teeth you’re cleaning, it’s your gums as well.

What else should I do for dental hygiene?

In addition to brushing, we recommend interdental brushes.  Using interdental brushes are great for removing plaque that you won’t be able to remove with just brushing.
